The Unseen Poem / by richard bentley

Ever looked at something and pondered its meaning? Ever looked for the hidden meaning of a daily object or put 2 and 2 together and come up with 7?

In my latest project, that has been ongoing since March 2023 I wanted to explore these feelings I have - feelings that I am surrounded by a hidden energy and meaning; to use photography as a gateway to that hidden meaning, that ‘unseen poem’ that resides in the mundane, the unseen, the unexplored.

Above is the first image I made in this series I am calling ‘The Unseen Poem’ - simple dried objects from a collection of potpourri that was hidden in plain sight. The objects are either lying on a flat surface or suspended in air. I was inspired by the idea of ‘thesis, synthesis and antithesis’ in creating this image.

As a father of 5, I am all to aware of the environment, political and cultural that my children inhabit, along with me as their father and their mother. Let’s keep our children safe from harm and let them and us enjoy their innocence. An innocence we seem to have lost as a society.

Seeing sharply (c#) takes experience. The ability to see possibilities in everyday objects is endless. We just have to see the music in everything around us…

All of the photographs in this series are photographed with a medium format Fujifilm GFX 100 camera using the GF100mm 1.2 lens. Sometimes with a macro extension tube. They are very high resolution images and available for sale as limited edition prints.
